History of Soy Wax Candles

Soy Wax Candles are made from soy wax which is hydrogenated soybean oil.  The wax was invented by Michael Richards in 1991.  With the demand growing for natural wax candles, Richards set out looking for a cheaper alternative to the expensive beeswax that was already being used.  After testing many different natural plant waxes, he finally ended up with a vegetable wax which was originally made up of partially hydrogenated soy oil, coconut oil, and palm oil.  He also blended beeswax with soy wax to make an economical natural wax candle.

 By 1996 Richards succeeded in replacing the expensive beeswax with soy wax.  He even developed different mixtures of the soy wax for container candles and free stand (pillar) candles (which require a higher melting point.  Soy wax candles have flooded the market.  And with today’s economy striving for more American made products, Soy is the wave of the future in candle making. 

Soy is the one product that can claim its 100% American; from the farmer planting the soy beans, to the refinery extracting the oil, to the soy wax  candle maker putting it all together for you.
